Protest in canada international students including Indians against Justin Trudeau government deportation decision

Protest In Canada: There are massive protests happening in Canada these days. In fact, more than 70,000 international students are facing the threat of being expelled from Canada. Recently, the Canadian government has made changes in the federal immigration policies and due to this, international students may have to face expulsion.

According to media reports, the work permits of some students are expiring at the end of this year and the Canadian government is not in favor of extending them. Due to the fear of deportation, students are protesting across Canada and demanding that their work permits be extended. Along with this, the students are also demanding permanent residence.

Where are the protests taking place?

Groups of international students have set up camps in various provinces including Prince Edward Island (PEI), Ontario, Manitoba and British Columbia. During this time they are also organizing rallies. In the same sequence, hundreds of students in Prince Edward Island have been protesting outside the Legislative Assembly for about three months, challenging the changes in the immigration rules.

Students expressed their pain

Mehakdeep Singh, a student facing deportation, spoke to the media through City News Toronto. Singh said, “I took risks for six years to come to Canada. Studied, worked, paid taxes and got CRS scores but now it seems like the government took advantage of me.”

Let us tell you that Canada has also decided to put a limit on international student permit applications and this has also become a cause of trouble for the students. According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), about 3,60,000 permits can be approved in the year 2024, which is about 35% less than last year. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also said on Monday (August 26) that the number of foreigners doing temporary jobs in Canada will be reduced. Let us tell you that this decision of the Trudeau government will affect Indians the most because there are a large number of Indian students in Canada.
